How to tailor your resume for a JobStreet Malaysia job
Start with one JobStreet posting and a saved copy of your career history. Match each important requirement to a real example, move relevant evidence forward, and rewrite for clarity. Leave unsupported skills out. Check the final resume against both the posting and your original facts before applying.
1. Work from the full job posting
Open the specific JobStreet Malaysia vacancy, including its responsibilities and requirements. Record the company, role and posting link so that similarly named jobs do not get mixed together. Keep your original resume as a master copy and create a separate version for this application. A role title alone is too little context for useful tailoring.
JobStreet Malaysia recommends identifying selection criteria and using relevant examples in your application. Its guidance is a useful starting point for deciding what to emphasise. Read JobStreet Malaysia’s guide to selection criteria
2. Put requirements beside your evidence
Make three columns in a document: requirement, evidence, and action. Separate requirements described as essential from preferences. For each one, find a concrete task, project or qualification in your career history. Your evidence should explain what you personally did and where you did it.
- Clear evidence: bring the relevant bullet higher within that role or project.
- Real experience, missing detail: add the verified task or tool to your master resume before tailoring.
- No evidence: record a gap. Do not add the requested skill just to match a keyword.
3. Rewrite one bullet without changing the facts
Fictional example: a Kuala Lumpur operations assistant role asks for Excel reporting and supplier coordination. The applicant’s actual source notes say they updated a weekly Excel delivery spreadsheet, contacted suppliers about missing dates and flagged overdue deliveries to a supervisor.
Before
“Helped with admin work and reports.”
After, using only those source facts
“Updated the weekly Excel delivery tracker, followed up with suppliers on missing delivery dates, and flagged overdue items to the operations supervisor.”
The revised bullet shows the tool, task and personal contribution. It does not claim faster deliveries, cost savings or team leadership. Add a number only when your records support it. Specific work can be useful evidence even when you have no measured business result.
4. Adjust emphasis across the resume
Write a short summary around the experience most relevant to this vacancy. Reorder bullets within their correct jobs, keep dates and job titles accurate, and remove repetition. Use wording from the advertisement when it truthfully describes your work. Repeating a phrase in every section does not add evidence.
If the role mentions language skills, state only the languages and proficiency you can demonstrate. Follow the application’s requested language and file format. An English or Chinese translation should preserve your level of responsibility, qualifications and results.
5. Use OfferPilots to organise the same process
You can do the steps above manually. With OfferPilots, start by reviewing your saved profile so that its experience, projects and skills reflect your real background.
- Open the JobStreet vacancy and explicitly start job capture from the extension.
- Review the captured role and compare the matched and missing requirements with your saved profile.
- Correct incomplete profile facts, then tailor a resume for that saved job.
- Review the generated wording and final document before submitting your application.
6. Check the version you will actually send
Read the final file from top to bottom. Confirm the correct employer, role, dates and contact details. For every claim, identify the source fact and consider how you would explain it in an interview. Keep the reviewed file beside the job posting so that you can prepare from the same version later.
